Val Swisher, Founder & CEO
Val Swisher is the CEO of Content Rules. She is a well-known expert in global content strategy, content development, and terminology management. Using her 20 years of experience, Val helps companies solve complex content problems by analyzing their content and how it is created. Val thinks that content should be easy to read, cost-effective to translate, and efficient to manage.
Her customers include industry giants such as Google, Cisco, BD Biosciences, Illumina, and Rockwell Automation. Each year, Val speaks at top industry conferences, including TC World, Content Marketing World, and the Intelligent Content Conference.
Val is on the Executive Board for Translators without Borders, where she is responsible for creating and running the Simplified English program. Translators without Borders provides other non-governmental organizations much-needed translations for humanitarian causes around the globe. Val is also part of the academic advisory team at UCSF Medical Center, where she helps medical students simplify their English content as part of the WikiProject: Medicine program.
“Global Content Strategy: A Primer,” published by XML Press, is Val’s third book. Her previous books include “Mastering Network Management,” published by Numidia Press and “The Comprehensive Guide to Computer Telephony Integration,” published by the CT Institute.
When not blogging, Val can be found sitting behind her sewing machine working on her latest quilt. She also makes a mean hummus.
Tim Steele, President
Tim joined Content Rules in 2008 to head up Client Services and was promoted to President in 2011. Prior to Content Rules, Tim spent a year at DCM as their VP in charge of Internal Operations, where he was responsible for finance, HR, IT, and legal, among other functions. Prior to that he spent 15 years in instructional design and web-based training, splitting his time between the agency-side (Crawford and Associates where he served as the COO) and the client-side (Baxter Healthcare). Tim’s experience includes spearheading training for the worldwide implementation of SAP for Hewlett Packard, as well as leading teams of instructional designers, graphic artists, editors, and web developers creating solutions for such clients as Cisco, Intel, Gap, and Logitech.
After living in Michigan, Florida, Chicago, and New York, Tim is now happy to call California home. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano and socializing with his parrot and the 42 palm trees just minutes from his front door in Silicon Valley.
Greg Swisher, CTO
Greg Swisher joined Content Rules in 2002. In 2010, Greg was promoted to CTO, responsible for determining the company’s strategic technology direction. Greg also manages its infrastructure and support teams. Greg came to Content Rules with 20 years of experience in high tech and networking. He served as a Technical Support Manager for Terayon Communications Systems. He also spent over a decade at 3Com Corporation as a Manager in the Interoperability Lab and as a Senior Technical Support Engineer. Greg graduated from DeVry Institute with a degree in Electronics.
Greg’s passion is cooking, creating lighter versions of recipes from around the world. He enjoys cycling the hills around the Bay Area and especially its rugged coastline. Additionally, Greg enjoys sharing his love of astronomy with others by volunteering at the Lick Observatory at Mt. Hamilton and co-teaching through Project Astro in the local elementary schools.
